Russian lightweight Ivan Redkach (18-0, 14 KOs) found Yabudu Amidu (19-6-2, 17 KOs) may not have the flashy name of other contenders, but he was a stiff challenge.

Redkach has a knack for finding the mark for his southpaw punches and hit Amidu early in the fight.

Redkach was busier and more accurate than Amidu in the first three rounds.  Then the African boxer who fights out of L.A. found the range.  Amidu began targeting the body and found success as it began opening up more options.  Redkach continued firing back and was hit low twice in the fifth round.  Referee Ray Corona deducted a point from Amidu for the repeat infraction.

Amidu came out firing in the sixth round and ran into a left cross that delivered him to the deck.  He got up and was met with an onslaught of blows from the lefty Redkach, who caught Amidu with a right cross.  Down went Amidu, hard. A very slow count by the referee allowed the African to beat the count.  Slowly he got up and survived the rest of the round.  While sitting in his stool the fight was stopped at the end of round six.

I’m a 44-year-old former powerlifter who is now bodybuilding. I was told that ZMA is a great supplement to improve muscle growth. Have you taken ZMA before? What is it?
A: Yes, I can attest personally that ZMA (a combination of zinc, magnesium aspartate and vitamin B6) is an extremely effective anabolic booster that helps increase testosterone, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and growth hormone (GH) levels while reducing cortisol levels. Taken before bedtime, ZMA helps you sleep more soundly, while your body releases GH and other anabolic hormones. ZMA also helps to replenish important micronutrients in your system, so you canrecover from workouts more quickly and completely.   ZMA is formulated to be highly bioavailable and has been proven to be clinically effective. Researchers at Western Washington University did a study on ZMA with football players. Over the course of two months of intensive training (including resistance exercise), those taking ZMA increased their free testosterone levels by 33.5%, whereas it dropped in the placebo group. The players taking ZMA also maintained higher IGF-1 levels and had twice the rate of improvement in strength.   While it is a proprietary formula, ZMA is available from many top manufacturers. One high-quality example is Cellucor COR-Performance ZMA, which is formulated with zinc mono-L-methionine sulfate, zinc/magnesium aspartate and vitamin B6. For a strength-training athlete of any age, ZMA will help to improve training, energy and lean-mass gains and support greater recovery. Take it before bed on an empty stomach.

When you ask junior middleweight hopeful Julian “J Rock” Williams who he believes the three best 154-pounders are on the planet, he doesn’t take long to answer.

“Definitely ‘Canelo’ [Saul Alvarez]. He’s really fighting; he lining ‘em up right now. You gotta respect that. I think [Erislandy] Lara’s good and, believe it or not, Vanes [Martirosyan],” said Williams from the Undisputed Gym in San Carlos, California on the afternoon of Dec. 4.

This Saturday night on Showtime Extreme, Williams takes on Jamar Freeman (a late replacement for Edgar Ortega) from the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Washington in a ten-rounder. For Williams, it will be his last developmental fight before ascending to the world-class level.

“I feel as though it is; I mean, how many more Edgar Ortegas can I fight?” asked the soft-spoken Williams, 17-0-1 (10). “I think a prospect stays at the same level too long; he’ll get stale and I don’t want to keep fighting the same level of competition for too much of a long time. I want to step up eventually.”

So what will his 2015 itinerary look like?

Green Bay — Aaron Rodgers possesses NFL records, a Super Bowl ring and an MVP trophy. He's on fire this season, leading the Green Bay Packers to an NFL-best 33 points a game.

But he's always looking to evolve, as a person and as a quarterback, and by tweaking a few health and wellness habits in the last year, he said he feels so good he has convinced himself he can play well into his late 30s and even his 40s.

Hot yoga. Vitamins. Limits on caffeine. Sleep. Proper hydration and detoxifying juice cleanses. Living by the 80-20 rule — and cutting back on pizza. It all has helped Rodgers look ahead to his 31st birthday Dec. 2 feeling like he's in the best shape of his life with some of his best games ahead of him.

"If you're taking care of your body and getting the proper nutrition, and sleeping well, you're going to be fit to play," said offensive coordinator Tom Clements. "And you're going to maintain that fitness for years."

For Rodgers, getting to this good place with his wellness started with getting enough sleep.

"Sleeping in general has always been a little difficult for me," said Rodgers. A good night for him used to be about 61/2 hours. "I just have a hard time turning my mind off, I think."

He started using ZMA, a vitamin supplement that includes zinc, magnesium and aspartate that can act as a muscle relaxer. "The ZMA puts you in the deeper sleep — quicker," said Rodgers. The supplement also is used by athletes as a recovery aid.

Courtesy of our friend and fighter Bilal Mahasin, we’ve been informed that Bay Area favorite Casey Morton has scored a successful victory in his profesional debut.

“Congrats to Casey Morton on her impressive pro debut victory! It should’ve been a tko! The bloodiest fight of the night! My God!” Mahasin stated, posting of photo of himself with the former amateur standout.

We first crossed paths with Morton at the PAL tournament last year in Oxnard, through Steven Foster and his father, and she is one of the most positive people you will find in the sport.
